GGGI’s diverse team, comprising staff, interns, consultants, and secondees, including from various government agencies, is pivotal to driving the organization’s growth and achievements. By the end of 2023, GGGI’s workforce grew by 20% to 491 staff. The representation of 82 nationalities underscores GGGI’s commitment to fostering diversity across its 46 countries of operations, enriching its skills and expertise.
GGGI achieved a 50/50 gender balance among staff with 35% female staff representation in senior grades X9-X13, and 48% of staff promotions going to females, the 2023 target in its People Strategy. Through diversity targets, internal movements, recruitment, talent development, and family friendly policies, GGGI aims to achieve its ambition of a 50/50 gender balance at all staffing levels by 2030.
In 2023, the annual employee engagement score remained high at 72%, with 79% of staff recommending GGGI as a great place to work. However, areas needing improvement were identified by staff. In response, the Executive Team virtually met nearly 30 country teams and staff to foster open communication, and alongside the Staff Council held an ‘Ask ET Anything’ session at the annual staff meeting. To address workload and wellbeing concerns, over 100 managers and their supervisors received project management training, a Wellbeing at Work program was initiated, and staff were trained on respectful workplaces by GGGI’s Ombudsperson.
Career development drives employee engagement, hence, GGGI prioritizes upskilling and development of its staff through corporate programs and individual learning budgets. This includes over 30 training sessions on GGGI systems, processes, diversity, equity, and inclusion training, coaching for senior staff, and a mentorship program both in-house and in partnership with the GCF. GGGI also improved its onboarding platform for new staff and 200 staff undertook learning of their choice. In April 2023, GGGI launched its inaugural Junior Professional Program (JPO), investing in early-career green growth professionals and deploying four JPOs by year’s end.
